The 956 Rundown is a free local newsletter for the Rio Grande Valley, published by Reyes Castillo Jr. in San Benito, Texas. This page explains what we collect and what we do with it.
What we collect
- When you subscribe: your email address, and your name if you give it. If you answer our short welcome survey, we keep your answers.
- When you read our emails: whether an email was delivered, opened, or clicked. Most newsletters collect this, and it tells us which stories you find useful.
- When a business contacts us about sponsoring: the business name, contact name, email, phone, and message sent through our sponsor form.
- When you visit our website: standard technical information your browser sends, and our website may use cookies to keep things working.
- Website analytics and advertising measurement: our websites use Google Analytics and the Meta Pixel. They use cookies and similar technology to tell us how many people visit, which pages they read, how they found us, and whether a visit led to a newsletter signup or a sponsor question. This also lets us measure and improve any ads we run on Facebook and Instagram. Google and Meta process this information under their own privacy policies.
What we do with it
- Send you The 956 Rundown and occasional related emails, like event guides.
- Learn which stories readers want more of.
- Answer businesses that ask about sponsoring.
We do not sell your information, and we do not share your email with the businesses we feature.
Who helps us run the newsletter
We use a few service providers to publish and deliver the newsletter and to store contact records: Letterman (publishing), GlobalControl (contact management), SMTP.com and Resend (email delivery), Supabase (data storage), Vercel (web hosting), and Google and Meta (website analytics and ad measurement). They handle your information only to provide those services to us.
Your choices
- Every email has an unsubscribe link at the bottom. One click and you're off the list.
- To have your information corrected or deleted, reply to any issue of the newsletter or write to us at the address below.
- To limit analytics and ad measurement, you can block cookies in your browser settings, use the Google Analytics opt-out add-on, and adjust your Facebook ad preferences.
